Things we can do to get our message out include: Talking to people, writing letters and raising awareness. We need to make sure that our representatives know that we’re paying attention. We’ve been talking about holding reps accountable and there are lots of ways to communicate our opinions including phone calls, emails, editorials.

Date for Scrap Book Party TBD
Start thinking about and writing your stories about why these things matter to you

We also plan to paint the rock to look like a boob (yay)!
Will advertise with a flier featuring a woman’s back, unsnapping bra with event info.

We may put a boobie box for bra donations
A Belly Dancing Flash Mob would be the icing on the proverbial cake!

  • Let’s make some money!

1.     OHLA stands for Ohio Lady Advocates and we keep up on the legislative happenings especially at the state and local levels, and act as informational/motivational resources for friends and families.

2.     Current Legislative Crap:
a.     Heartbeat Bill: Would entitle embryo to full Constitutional rights at between 18-22 days gestation. Effectively criminalizes abortion, does not make exceptions for rape and incest.
                                               i.     Was on hold after December hearings, but may be on the move again after March
ii.     OHLAs should keep aware, write letters, and be prepared for Columbus field trips in the future!
b.     Crisis Pregnancy Center Crap: Would entitle crisis pregnancy centers to funding before any other family planning clinics-effectively puts Planned Parenthood at the bottom of the funding list-severely reducing or eliminating government funding
                                               i.     Keep a keen eye and computers at the ready for letter-writing
c.     More Crisis Pregnancy Center Crap: A movement to recognize the contributions of crisis pregnancy centers to society would make official positive record of centers that do not offer a balanced perspective on unplanned pregnancy options
                                               i.     More awareness and letter-writing!
d.     Judicial Bypass: Bill that requires women under age 18 to go through the courts in order to receive an abortion without parental consent, subjecting the woman to biased information and complex/drawn out/ expensive processes.
                                               i.     This was signed into law in November
e.     Insurance Ban: Makes it illegal to purchase insurance that covers abortions, even for individuals
                                               i.     Bill passed in Decemeber
f.      The post-viability legislation was revised to be even stricter.
3.     Potential positives:
a.     Women and Children First Act: Improves policy on sex-ed as well as access to condoms, birth-control, and would make Plan B available to all victims of sexual assault
                                               i.     In committee
ii.     Keep aware and write letters!!
b.     Act for our Children’s’ Future: Sets a precedent for comprehensive sex-ed
                                               i.     In committee
ii.     Be ready to sing it’s praises!
c.     Compassionate Assistance for Sexual Assault Victims: Provides Plan B for victims of rape
                                               i.     Not moving currently
4.     Personhood: Because something so crazy gets its own category!
a.     Would amend state Constitution to assert that life begins at conception not only making abortion illegal, but threatening some kinds of birth-control and in-vitro procedures.
                                               i.     Language has been approved to collect signatures required to put issue on the ballot
ii.     Begin ‘Decline to Sign’ campaign
1.     Be a resource to everyone you know, emphasize the serious, extensive, impact this bill would have
5.     On a national note…
a.     Obama refused to compromise on birth-control coverage!
                                               i.     Hooray!!
ii.     Requires all institutions to cover birth control in their insurance packages, including religious institutions.
